Signs up for the 2013 season have started! Email now for your sign up appointment!!

The easiest way to find out available times is to check our regularly updated Southside CSA FB page. Feel free to email too. Be aware– we run this project as a strictly volunteer thing. The organizers have full time jobs and busy lives. We try to be prompt with our responses, but sometimes it will take us several days to respond.

There is a rumor about that we are filled up and have no openings…

Have no fear!  Due to the transient nature of Brooklynites, there is plenty of room in our CSA for new members . However, we do have a set number of shares and individual packages will sell out…

Maple Syrup in the house! Our annual maple syrup share distribution was this week. (Just in time too because we were on our last few drops of syrup from last season) It was a bit overcast, with some sprinkles of rain, but we had another smashing distribution. Great to see all of our B-weekers, the world’s cutest (and smallest) dog, and of course, our Circle C Maple farmers. It was an action packed week with us distributing 4 things: Greig Farm share, Feather Ridge Farm Egg share, Northwind Farm Meat share, & Feather Ridge Chicken share.

The Time to Sign Up for Farm Shares is Now!

It happens every June…

They walk into the backyard at the Woods. They see the buckets of strawberries. They see our bags of local greens. They see us picking up our farm share.

What’s this? they ask? Someone tells them, It’s the Southside CSA.

And then they remember. Oh Yeah! They have always wanted to join a CSA!

Can I Join? they ask, voice excited.

Sorry, we have to say.

Sorry, you have to sign up in the early Spring.

Sorry, we don’t have anything for sale.

Sorry, we can’t sell you any leftovers.

SorryWe can add you to our waitlist, we tell them. You will get an email next year, we say as we hand them our little flyer.

They walk away with the little slip of paper, watching our members with their bags of freshly picked local produce…

If you want these berries, these greens, these eggs, this amazing bounty of local goodness from late Spring, through the entire Summer, and deep into Fall, until Thanksgiving, then you have to SIGN UP NOW! (Don’t say we didn’t warn you…)

The time is now to dive into this blog and read how to sign up.

Read about our share packages, read about our farmers, read about our membership volunteer requirements.

Spend an hour thinking about how the Southside CSA can work for you.  Then send us an email for an appointment on Monday April 2nd. 7pm, 730pm, or 8pm. southsidecsa at gmail dot com.

This will be one of the last chances to sign up for this season’s bounty…

How to Sign Up for the Southside CSA 2012 Harvest Season

Peppers. The Woods. Oct 2011

Sign ups are now open for the 2012 harvest season

We sell our fruit, vegetable, and egg shares in a package system. Our Maple and Meat shares are additional items. We work with 4 farms, all in New York state, none are certified organic but all are natural and do not use pesticides. The season starts in May and lasts through mid-November. Distribution is in the backyard of the Woods, the best damn bar in all of Williamsburg. We distribute on Monday nights from 630pm-830pm. During those 2 hours, members come to the Woods armed with their own bags and pick up their produce (and wash down that delicioso taco or burrito with a cold beer or margarita). Some people pick up everything every week; some people pick up some stuff every other week. There are many different options in order to accommodate many lifestyles, households, and families in our community. Every share family has a volunteer requirement.

We do in-person sign-ups, once a week, at the organizers loft. We make appointments in order to have a smooth sign-up experience for everyone. It takes about 15-30 minutes depending on how many questions you–or the person in front of you– has.

Greig Farm Share. Best Berries Ever! Aug 11, 2011

We are in the process of updating our blog, www.southsidecsa.org. Right now, all the info is from 2011. Stay tuned as it is updated. More info regarding this year’s sign will be available shortly. Bring your questions about Southside CSA, our farmers–MimoMex Farm, Greig Farm, Circle C Farm, & Northwind Farm, and how our farm shares operate to the following open house [question-n-answer] events:

Week #15 – Aug 8 [Aweek]

It has been a rough year for farmers in the region. Lack of water can be far more devastating than flooding. Consider the fact that Greig Farm saw its first rain in over a month this weekend and you will understand what a struggle the season has been, especially considering the cold Spring complete with devastating hail storms. Both our farmers have been hit by the hot weather. The blueberries are frying in the hot hot heat, waning earlier than normal. Over at MimoMex, the Rodriguez family has lost their string bean and epazote crops. Martin’s neighbor, a 4th generation farmer, says that this is the hottest Summer in 30 years and one of the worst that his family can remember. Despite the heat, we are getting a big bounty of absolutely amazing food, like our first batch of tomatoes and raspberries. Enjoy! We said good-bye to a treasured member last night; Jen is moving to Portland, Oregon for a big west coast adventure. She is the genius who hooked us up with the Cicero family — our maple farmers and her aunt & uncle — and facilitated the creation of our local Maple Syrup share. Her smiling face and amazing support of local produce will be missed, but have no fear, she will continue to facilitate the Maple Share from across the country. Speaking of Maple syrup, we have the last few bottles left from the 2011 harvest on sale at distribution. Pints & half pints of the A grade are available for purchase over at the picnic table market. Big superhero thanks to Jen for all your support of Southside CSA!
