Thank you for your support of the weekly soup kitchen meal at the Greenpoint Reformed Church. It is amazing how the weekly meal comes together; it truly is the little kitchen that could. You help so much by participating in the Dessert Corps and the soup kitchen chefs are so appreciative.
So, you volunteered to make a dessert with extras from the CSA & a little love from your kitchen…
How it works:
- If we have leftover produce, you will glean off leftovers for your dessert. If not, we ask that you either make a fruit-free dessert of your choice or reschedule for another week.
- We will provide you with a recyclable pan to use. Feel free to bake up the recipe of your choice. Scroll down for some of our fave recipes.
Drop off of the dish is either at the Soup Kitchen on Wed afternoon or at 140 Metropolitan Ave (first floor buzzer or hidden under green bench in garden) on Tues night or Wed am. If dropping off at the Soup Kitchen, take the dessert to the back kitchen, 3pm – 6pm.
Buckles – delicious butter cakes which are perfect receptacles for fresh fruit — are one of the best dishes for dessert at the soup kitchen. Any fruit can be substituted into the recipes. Combos work well too
Also, add fruit to your favorite brownie or blondie recipe. Favorite non fruit desserts are brownies, pecan pies, and whoopie pies.
