October 5th – B week

Afternoon All!

Well – it really is autumn. First squash now…. PUMPKINS! Time to get practicing on those lantern creations. I expect top notch images to come flying into the CSA gmail. I hear you New Yorkers are quite the carpenters.

Pumpkins & squash

NOTE – bring an extra very strong bag – those squash and pumpkins are pretty hefty.

Vegetables

  • 1 pumpkin
  • 1 butternut squash
  • 1 acorn squash
  • 1 bunch spinach
  • 1 bunch kale
  • 1 bunch collard  greens
  • 1 head lettuce
  • 1 cauliflower
  • 1 lb potatoes
  • 4 ears corn

Eggs – one dozen delicious, free range eggs from happy healthy chickens

Fruit

1 lb each of the following:

  • Yellow pears
  • Baby pears (not sure of the name, but they’re cute as heck and very very sweet) (umm… I must confess I ate one. Only one though! I simply had to. Their delicious peary scent was wafting over the crates of pumpkins and I folded like pack of cards before teatime)
  • Golden delicious apples
  • Empire red apples

If anyone has a good recipe for baked pears – wing it over (with images). I’m thinking it’ll serve well with vanilla bean ice cream and hot, dark chocolate sauce.

One another note RE: fish off the boat – thanks so much for all of the encouraging and excited emails. Seems like over half of you are into it!

We are discussing with the fishermen about price and quantity (the most common query raised by you lot) and as soon as I have more info I will email it out, along with details about the fishermen themselves. We would love to do it this year – but don’t be disappointed  if it doesn’t happen till next season.

We’ll try our best.

See y’all later.
