It was another sweltering day as the heat wave continues to pound Brooklyn. Despite the high temps and the lack of rain, the produce was looking fine as ever. In a little glimpse into the lives of our farm family, Martin & Gaudencia’s 2 youngest children accompanied them to drop off the food. As we were unloading, I asked Mimo (the namesake of the farm and their only son) if he did anything fun for the 4th of July holiday. With all the sauciness that only a 10 year old can muster, he declared “Nope, I was in the field all day cutting stuff for you guys”. It was a bit of a reality check for me to realize that our farmers spent the entire holiday harvesting our food. What an amazing gift to receive freshly harvested produce weekly; 3 cheers to our dedicated farmers (and their hardworking children!!)

It was another great distribution. Thanks to all the volunteers who rocked out the night. We are still very excited about this year and really looking forward to the start of the Orchard share next week. We were able to enjoy a beer with Norman, our Berry farmer, and already looking forward to next season’s “Strawberry Share” & “Spring Asparagus & Sugar Snap Pea Share”. Ooohh La La!
