Week #10 – Aug 16 [B week]

This week it rained! We had almost finished setting up for distribution, our volunteers had arrived early and we were hopping along nicely, when thunder, lightening (very very frightening) DOWN POUR!

We hurried the precious berries and eggs inside. Then dashed out for the fruit which was packed in perishable cardboard boxes. It started to rain harder and we thought, perhaps it’s just the one hit of rain, it’ll stop in a few mins. NOPE. So the remaining few mins of set up was spent running like mad through the by now drenching rain, with a few extra early bird members (THANK YOU THANK YOU!), and chucking the crates back inside.

Ho hum – the vegetables seems totally fine!

Vegetables:

  • 1 bunch Pipicha (blog post to come)
  • 1 bunch Lemongrass
  • 1 bunch Cilantro
  • 1/2 lb Tomatillos
  • 1/2 lb Serrano peppers
  • 2 Eggplant
  • 3 Bell Peppers
  • 1 bunch Kale
  • 2 Beets
  • 2 Tomatoes

Orchard:

  • 1 lb of Apples
  • 1 lb of Peaches
  • 1 lb of Fortune Plums
  • 1 lb of Red Heart Plums

Hope that you really enjoy the sweet Summer crop of apples, so different from their Fall compatriots! An apple a day keeps the doctor away…

Eggs

  • One dozen of the very best!

We will soon start selling our Winter Shares (which is run through a different farmer). However, MimoMex will be doing a monthly Winter Egg share through us. It will be a monthly delivery at the Woods with a purchase choice of 1, 2, 3 or 4 dozen eggs. Three cheers to a years supply of these gorgeous pastured eggs!

Berries:

Choice of  one…

  • 1 pint of Raspberries (some with a sprinkling of Blueberries to complete the pint)
  • 2 1/2 pints of Blackberries
  • 3 pints Blueberries

We had about 43 of the raspberry choice, about 4 of the Blackberry choice, & about 8 of the Blueberry choice.
