Week #11 – Aug 23 [A Week]

Week 11 means we are halfway through the 2010 harvest season! And with all the news surrounding the “bad eggs” in stores across the country, never have I been more stoked to know my farmer and know that my food is safe…

Lots of news out there regarding the egg recall of over 1/2 a billion eggs from 2 gigantic factory farms. Seems rather obvious but the teachable moment seems to be that “[t]hese are high-risk facilities so you need FDA checking on them regularly, at least once a year, to make sure they are complying with the regulations. You can’t produce food at that level without a food safety cop on the beat.”(Caroline Smith DeWaal, food safety director for the Center for Science in the Public Interest). Look for info in the next few days regarding our Winter Share for Veg & Eggs! Three cheers to not having to worry about the safety of our food; we get to worry about things like how to use that lemongrass!
