Week #6 – June 11th [B Week]

Aw yeah! The MimoMex vegetable share has begun. The first of 24 weeks of vegetable goodness straight from the Black Dirt region of our great state.

MimoMex Vegetable Share

  • Choice of 3 Beets or 2 Kohlrabi
  • 1 bunch Spinach
  • 1 bunch Kale
  • 1 bunch Collard Greens
  • 1 bunch Cilantro
  • 1 bunch Mint
  • 2 heads of Spring Garlic
  • 1 bunch Radish

Bring on the Spring greens! In addition to the usual MimoMex vegetables,  Kohlrabi, a local farming favorite in the Black Dirt region, has made it onto the cultivation list.

Greig Farm Share

  •  14 ounces of English Shelling Peas
  • 4 quarts Strawberries

Norm grows several varieties of strawberries. Picking berries from different flats = different types of  lusciousness. Just look for differences in size and shape. The peas this week are different from the previous week; These are shelling peas meaning most people find the shells too fibrous to eat. However, they are great in stocks and I bet you might be able to pickle them.

Feather Ridge Egg Share

  • 1 dozen farm fresh eggs

Northwind Farm Meat Share

  • Beef for Stew
  • Whole Chicken
  • Ground Pork
  • Chorizo Sausages

Feather Ridge Chicken Share

  • 1 fresh Whole Chicken

It was another gorgeous evening in the backyard at the Woods with drinks, tacos, burritos, friends, strawberries, and greens galore. Thanks to all the distribution volunteers who made our first big week go soooo smoothly. Big thanks to Norm for the 4 extra flats of strawberries for the Southside Mission. And some more thanks to those soup kitchen volunteers who gleaned off extras and made delicious salads & desserts for this week’s Greenpoint Soup Kitchen meal. Hopefully it makes you feel better to know that the weeks you miss distribution, your food is donated to feed hungry people. Sharing in our bounty is one of the great parts of the CSA community relationship. Oh yeah, and one last big  thank you to the drivers who get our donations over to the Mission. Without everyone’s helping hand, it would be impossible to donate our leftovers…

Dont forget — you can still pick up some Circle C Maple syrup. While supplies last!!

Happy Eating!!
