Hi readers!
Our household loves kale and sweet potatoes. For the last delivery of the season, we decided to have a super duper kale-fest. Below are a few of our favorite recipes, including two with kale. They are very quick and easy and best of all, healthy! Enjoy.

THE GRAND STREET GO-TO
Tonight (and most nights really) we sauteed kale and served it with roasted sweet potatoes and brown rice. You can serve this meal with braggs, tahini or any other kind of sauce that you happen like.

ANTS ON A LOG
Roast whole sweet potatoes with the skin on
Take them out of the oven, cut in half
Drizzle with olive oil, sprinkle wtih sea salt
Serve over black quinoa.

This meal is very simple but the flavors are just right!!

WUTANG KALE SALAD
Discard kale stems
Rinse & chop leaves, and put in a big bowl
add olive oil and sea salt
massage leaves with your hands a few minutes
add finely sliced apples and julianned radished
add apple cider vinegar to taste
add fresh lemon juice to taste
sprinkle with nuts and seeds. (we like pistachios! and recently tried a flax-see nut mix)

Hi there CSAers! Our share family consists of my girlfriend Mary and I (Caitlyn), and we have the Bridge share plus a Berry share, which means we do our veggie and orchard share every other week, and berries every week. This has been going a long way towards feeding us this summer. Mary is a vegetarian, and I have recently given up meat, so we’re eating a lot of produce. We do supplement our share with trips to the Greenmarket for things like garlic, onion and herbs, along with milk and yogurt. Here’s our haul for this week:

Beets, squash, and leeks, oh my.

Don’t forget lettuce, potatoes, radish, carrots, papalo, plums, and eggs. This week’s CSA offerings were quite beautiful.

Our Half Monty share of veggies, eggs, orchard, and berries is split between three
roommates: Mo, Michele, and myself, Teresa. Last month, Michele moved into her
own place, and I leave New York in just a week for the West Coast, so it’s with a heavy
heart that I cooked up this week’s share. I’ve always enjoyed cooking, and farmshare
has provided me with a welcome challenge to incorporate new items into my repertoire,
and for that I – and my palate – are forever grateful! So consider this member diary my
departing love letter to Southside CSA.

Member Diary #14 – Estefania, Elizabeth & Jay

Oh hello there.  So Estefania, Elizabeth, and myself all share a Full Monty Deluxe Share which included, blueberries, blackberries, nectarines, sugar plums, Swiss Chard, Beets,Romaine Lettuce, Corn, mint, white onion, leeks, summer squash, cucumber, cilantro, annnnnddd Pipicha, that herb which I can never quite pronounce the name of.  As you can see from our picture of the share, we could use a bit more counter space in our apartment, but what can you do?   I guess get more counter space… but moving right along… Continue reading

Southside CSA Diary  for the week of 9/20

One important thing to note about our share is that my boyfriend does not eat vegetables, only lettuces, potatoes, and raw carrots.  But he loves fruits, berries, eggs, and meat of all sorts.  This means I have to really make the most of the veggie share all on my own, especially as I hate to waste good food.

Member Diary #14 – Lucas & Ali

This weeks goodies:

1 bunch of spinach 1 head of lettuce 1 bunch of radishes 1/2 pound of tomatillos 1/2 pound of jalapenos 1 eggplant 1 acorn squash 1 bunch of parsley 1 bunch of mint 1 bunch of coriander apples galore! punnet of raspberries

I was a little worried about doing the member diary this week, as at the last minute Lucas had to go away for work which left me on my lonesome with all this fruit & vege to consume, to get creative with & to write about! Not the worst task in the world, but I’m 35 weeks pregnant and feeling very much like being cooked for rather than doing the cooking! But I soldiered on and this is what the week looked like!
