Week #22 - Nov 8 [B week]

Our last week of the 2010 Harvest season. Hard to believe that the holidays are here and the dark days of winter are right around the corner. We have had another bountiful season with Martin & Gaudencia of MimoMex and added another amazing farmer into the Southside CSA family with our Berry share through Norman of Greig Farm. Thanks to everyone who made this possible, especially the cool kids at the Woods! Continue reading

Member Diary #21 - M&C

We’re two households of two each, and we’ve been sharing the full Domino plan, full orchard and half eggs. Usually, we meet up at the share on Monday nights, divvy up the goods (or arm-wrestle for the things that can’t be easily divided), grab a drink and talk shop, then return to our respective abodes to cook like fiends. But recently our schedules have made it so we had to switch weeks, with each household taking turns with the entire share. Thus, both households are ponying up for this post, with some items from the previous week’s share. So this is more of an example of how many meals you can get out of 2 weeks of a share like ours. It’s a two-fer Monday, good times!

The Nov 1 share looked like this:

Week #21. Nov 1st [A week]

It was cold, but we wanted one last night in the backyard. Giant squash and big old beets were waiting to be roasted and toasted. Continue reading

Dance Party Fundraiser. Thurs Nov 4th @ the Woods

Instead of filling up the Woods with produce, on Nov 4th, we will fill it up with dancing bodies!

As harvest season begins to draw to a close and our share pickups become numbered, it’s time to come together and celebrate another wonderful year of great local food, direct connection with farmers and the wonderful community we’ve become.

Our fantastic hosts at the Woods have graciously given their space to us on Thursday, November 4th- letting us have an end-of-year fundraiser at the Woods and donating a percent of the bar to us to help us continue to support some very important neighborhood food security projects. Specifically, the $$ earned on this night will go directly to purchasing Winter Shares for the Greenpoint Soup Kitchen & Egg shares for the Southside Mission Pantry. The more money we make, the more shares we can purchase, and the more hungry people from the neighborhood we can feed…

CSA members Phil Andrews and Rebecca Heinegg will be bringing their dance-ragtime band Apocalypse Five and Dime and the Woods will supply DJs for us to dance our hearts out.

CSA Bake Sale!

In addition, we’ll be hosting a tasting table of treats made from CSA produce.

Don’t forget to invite all your housemates who have eaten from the CSA bounty and your friends who have cooked for and anyone else you know who likes good food, music and dancing. The better the bar does, the better we do!
