Au Revoir Esther

(We have been so busy with getting ready for the upcoming season that we haven’t had to to bust out a proper good-bye so here goes…)

Cheers to you, E!

Our co-founder, the ever-fabulous Esther Giangrande has left this fair city, heading west to a new community in Phoenix. We will miss her immensely in the backyard of the Woods but wish her good times & great travels.

Gracias for everything you did to help build this great community of veg-heads, rocking out a nice little economic partnership in support of local farms. I feel like this fab vid put together by Lucas Allen is a pretty great representation of this amazing little thing you helped us grow in a backyard in Brooklyn.

Keep us posted on all your new projects and adventures. If you are ever back in town for a spell, we hope it’s on a Monday and that you will be joining us for a drink & vegetable taco!!

Happy S’mores Day!

In honor of yesterday’s National S’mores Day and the fact that today is National Book Lovers Day, I present to you a cookbook that encompasses the best of both holidays: Campfire Cookery: Adventuresome Recipes and Other Curiosities for the Great Outdoors by Sarah Huck and Jaimee Young.

I know many of you CSAer’s love to camp and if you love the wonderful bounty of delicious vegetables that is the Southside CSA, chances are you aren’t going to be happy eating hot dogs and ramen noodles for an entire weekend (not that there’s anything wrong with that). This book is worth taking a look at to inspire some incredible campfire meals. Eight of us Southside CSAer’s (and two misfits from another csa) went to Cedar Point Campground in Long Island for Memorial Day Weekend and brought this book with us to test out some of the recipes. Southside CSA article on one-earth.com

ONE EARTH logo

A sparkly new article on the Southside CSA has just been posted at One-Earth.com.

One-Earth.com is a wiki-powered website which lists solutions to everyday environmental questions such as, “where can I compost my left over greens” and “eek - where can I take this girl I want to impress who is vegan?!”

Information is organized by city and by category (such as “home solutions” and “businesses and services”). And since we all like to think we know best, my favorite element is that it works like wikipedia - you can find resources in your neighborhood for environmental businesses, organizations and events and post it yourself! Yup, a website that actually thinks its users know best – bliss!

So come on SScsa - get posting! From the numerous emails we receive, I know y’all have much to share.

This site is brilliant and will get better and better as its users post on it.
