Have no fear, there are still memberships available the 2014 Harvest season.

 

Right now we can pretty much create almost every type of share (within reason). As the CSA fills up there will be less flexibility in the packages offered. Lots of info on the blog about our shares, our packages, our farmers, and our CSA. Don’t forget to check out our great add-ons - Chicken Shares, Meat Shares, Maple Shares, and Beer Club Membership….

Upcoming Sign-Up Events -

To make life easier, from here on out all sign-up events are open house style. No need to email and arrange a time. This way you can drop on in and not worry about schedules and we can concentrate on admin duties instead of email…

If you are having a hard time making these events work with your schedule, please let me know and we will see what we can work out.

  • Circle C Maple Syrup Share is a one time distribution, typically the first or second week of distribution.
  • Greig Farm Share distributes 24 weeks. May 5 through October 13
  • Feather Ridge Farm Egg & Chicken Shares May 5 through October 13
  • Northwind Farm Meat Share distributes 24 weeks. May 5 through October 13. A variety of packages from 4 weeks to 24 weeks available
  • MimoMex Vegetable Share distributes 25 weeks. June 9 through Nov 24

We organize the shares offered at Southside CSA into packages. This helps us volunteers keep things organized while meeting our farmer’s sales needs. The earlier you sign up, the more likely you are to get whatever type of package your heart desires. We have crafted a big variety of packages — Full Share Packages & Mixed Full -Half Share Packages & Half Share Packages. We tried to make that list complete BUT if you don’t see the combo that fits your needs, let us know what you would like to purchase. Eggs are one of the best sources of protein around, especially fresh, local, pasture-raised eggs. Egg shares - both half and full can be added to any package. Eggs are great for breakfast, lunch, dinner and dessert. SO put an egg on your purchase order and get in on some of the best eggs the Hudson Valley has to offer.

Another great package for the person that likes to eat local fruit, especially berries, but can’t commit to cooking up all those vegetables. The Just Jammin’ Package is a Full Share of the Greig Farm Share which consists of mostly berries. Greig Farm is a pick your own farm in Red Hook. Norm grows asparagus, strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, apples, and pumpkins. All are grown without any spraying of any sort of pesticides — not even the natural types approved under the organic moniker. He grows with the ideal that one can walk out into the field, pick the ripest, plumpest berry and pop it right into your mouth without worrying about washing anything off. This share is unlike our other shares in that it follows exactly the ebb and flow of the season, the amount arriving directly related to what is ripe on Monday morning, to the weather, the season, all the factors that can alter a local harvest.

With all these berries, you can top your morning cereal, bake up a slew of pies, and rock out jams that will make your grandma proud. Experiment with pickled asparagus, rock out strawberry chamomile jams & blueberry maple butters, make your friends swoon by bringing raspberry sorbet to those summer bbqs, stock your pantry with blackberry chutney, and master that apple pumpkin pie by the time the holidays roll around. This share is beyond perfect if you want to enjoy some of the local Hudson Valley harvest, be a part of the Southside CSA, improve your culinary skills, and upgrade your health with a weekly dose of nature’s candy.

This year we have designed the perfect share for those of you who love to support your local farmers but don’t really spend a lot of time cooking up dinners - the OH MY PIE! share. This baker’s combo of the NY Orchard Share & Egg share is the perfect union for those who like to bust out those peach pies, plum cobblers, and egg custards. Of course, you don’t have to be Martha Stewart to rock the Oh MY PIE share. This is also a great purchase for those who like to start their days with a breakfast of local fruits and eggs. Purchase some of our Circle C Maple Syrup and you have the makings of the most perfect Sunday Brunch! Hello apple-cardomon pancakes smothered in maple syrup. Broken Stove Beer Tasting Club Summer Extension

HUZZAH! Those Summer BBQ’s are gonna have a little more local flavor thanks to the Summer extension of the Broken Stove Beer Tasting Club!

Our brewer has announced a 4 month Summer membership. For just $65 you can get in on the local, homebrew magic. Beer doesn’t get more craft or local than this — unless you do it yourself! Spots are limited so act fast and claim your spot today.

Details -

Each month, you will receive 3 varieties of beer in your share. James will be brewing up Pale Ales, a Gosse, an English Brown, 3 different Belgians, and Summer Ales. A booklet will be provided to each member to record tasting notes. For the foodies in the house, we will post a write up about each beer flavor so you can play and pair your monthly beers for an amazing culinary experience.

The Club will have a session once per month from June through September. (Technically, July will be a double month with 6 varieties arriving with no beer delivery in August)

Members pick up their beers on the following dates

  • Sun June 22
  • Sun July 27
  • AUG - NO PICK UP
  • Sun Sept 21

We try to schedule 1-2 people every half hour. Email us with your preferred date and time and i will respond with a confirmation or alternate openings.
